Well tonight I've stolen another males nest lol and dumped it in the breeding tank in the hope it will encourage him to build on it! So see what happens!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
finally! Some good news! The bubbles I added form the other male have done the trick and he's built on them nicely today! So I've just let the female out again for a while, she keeps going to the nest, sitting underneath it, then swimming off! I've taken that as a good sign as Im sure she would have destroyed it if she wasn't happy!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
Under Kel's advise lol Went in from underneath with a container, and carefully transferred into new tank
Just been up to see what's going on, and all is good, no nipping or anything yet, he's busily tending and adding to his nest, she keeps swimming over, taking a look and then swimming back to the other side, so looking good! So excited AHHHHHH and so scared too!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
Well still not going to bad but she's back in her container for tonight. Think he wasn't quite ready as he kept chasing her away from the nest. Both have took a little bit of damage on their fins, but nothing major as yet. Im still confident that it's going to work, she's interested, but he's still wanting to build on his nest, so will try them again out together tomorrow afternoon.
Hope Im doing the right thing?

Cool, I think a lot of it is just trial and error isnt it? Just dont want them to hurt each other either, then I have the babies to worry about OMG!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
tbh when i spawned mine i just kinda took the what will be will be attitude, whatever happens is down to nature, nothing you can do about it really , i just made sure i watched them when she was out , then was completely taken in with the spawning and sat for 2 hrs watchin till he eventually chased her away, made sure he was good and left him to it, i think the fact i spawned them in the growing out tank was a help, lots of room for her to go and hide from him lol it's been an experience believe me, and the excitement of seeing how they turn out now is just great!
You'll be fine hun, you've got everyone here to help if u get stuck an with kels advice you'll sail through it!!!

Thanks hun, I think once I've got this first one out the way I'll be OK, same as anything, do it once and you've got it, well pretty much LOL So far the female has proved to not be too vicious, so we'll see!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
Oh Im gonna have grey hairs at the end of this LOL
So far today we've had the female under the nest - Still not destroying it, just looking. Then the male sort of showing off and waggling as if to say what do you think? Then she swims off LOL But I do think all the good signs are there, and hoping today is gonna be the day!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
Still nothing really to report, same old. Still left them out, no major damage, no major arguing, it just seems disinterest on the females part again now. He keeps showing off and trying to get her to the nest, and she just swims off without a care in the world!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
OMG I've done it again! I dreamt that they were wrapping, so I woke up, checked the fish - She had been left out al night as nothing much was happening and they were reasonably docile to each other. Anyway, woke up, swapped end of the bed and lay watching them. Then after 10 minutes she came over the the nest, he was waggling like mad, she was waggling like mad, then they were wrapping She cant have dropped any eggs though, they did it 3 times and he hasnt been swimming up and down yet. But something is most definately happening now! OMG Im gonna be on tender hooks all day! Im gonna be a grandma!

It takes awhile for the eggs to come out hun, so thats all normal. Mine had 4-6 failed wraps last night and they gave up lmao.

Ooohhh my gooood. I think they have given up here too, she's not been near the nest since first thing. He's still doing his best to entice her though lol
