Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
Well not much to report on the baby side, they are still there and still darting around
Daddy though still continues to be right down in the dumps, and I'l be hoenst I thought I'd lost him earlier. He was lying flat out on the bottom of the tank and just wouldn't move at all. It was only when I removed the tank lid that he moved, and showed how thin he is looking too - He's ate some daphnea today, and I'm off to get some frozen bloodworm tomorrow - Im off the live bloodworm, the last lot I had was minging But he is eating, just very very small amounts. Just wish he wouldn't scare me like that

Male is eating a bit better now. Been and got a few different foods trying to bulk him up a little bit he looks so scrawny!
Babies, well they are doing ace! Watched them just eating a newly hatched brine shrimp, tiny things! Counted 8 yesterday, but guess there could still be more, they are so tiny still! Tried to get some pics but the camera really isnt up to scratch

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
oooh my gooood! Just went to feed babies again, did a quick count, and I have at least 15! I have no idea where they all came from but there are loads all of a sudden! And they are growing nicely, looking to be at a guess a bout 5mm long now! This about right for their age?

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
Actually just found this site http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/bettagrowth.html
And they look about the 3 week old size to me, so they are on target, dead chuffed! Ooooh I have babies - Still cant quite believe it LOL
Edited to say, just checked and they are only just coming up to 2 weeks old now, so they are doing very well! Will see if moms camera can get some pics coz my camera wont zoom enough

Nope, just a bog standard point and click. But with the light, and a bit of pot luck, plus babies getting bigger I managed to get some half dcent pics. I tried all different ways before I got these!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
Havn't updated this thread in a while. Babies doing well, have lost a few last few days, but these were really small compared with the others, so assume these are the runts But the one's that are still there (still 15 or so) are looking like little mini fishies now, very sweet Have to admit this was the part I was dreading, so really worried now I might lose any more. What's the main reason for losing babies? Temp is constant, filter is fine, water stats good. Food going in regular. Anything Im missing here?

How many young do you get when they first hatch and how many would you expect to have left after 2 months

Mandy..It seems to be the "norm" to loose fry along the way. But I don't have an explanation as to why.

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
top breeders in european climate using indoor tanks
30 fry to adult is a standard spawn
you get the occasional 100+ spawns but they aren't the norm
average spawn is 300 fertilised eggs..
most don't make it past the first week, if they all hatch
i know i'd rather have natural weakest die offs than having to cull

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
I'd say on average babies are now 1/2 inch long. So maybe a little under size, may have to feed them up a bit more! They are eating the bbs like it's going out of fashion though!

Re: And here we go 27.6 Baby pics
And here they are as of today. Counted 12 all in all, dunno where the extra 2 came from LOL They are still tiny compared to Teri's of the same age, but are colouring up now, one has some lovely red streaks coming onto the fins, and one is a nice shiny turquoise colour, so exciting!
