Re: 1st spawn
Dark/strong coloured spawns always begin to show colour with the stripes before the full scale colouring develops. Its nothing to do with stress just how the colour forms.
Fry have the horizontal stripes for weeks and is normal. once the full solid colour develops but it tones down then its a stress reaction just as adults do.
shadow what colours are you getting, red, blue and greens?

lol @ haych... glad to have helped
wonder if the yellow will go orange?
shouldn't be too long now before you're starting to jar them!
they about 1.5-2cm's long now approx?

Re: 1st spawn
fry that aren't pastel or white it is normal...they're colouring up nicely
4-6 months is average when spawns ready to sell from uk breeding
thai's can grow them in outside pools (300ltrs+) at high temps, natural live foods etc which we just cannot reproduce in our climate, why they can have fish to jarring stage at 8-9 weeks fully coloured compared.
one big advantage from uk breeding is the fry are hardier, will live longer and less sensitive to conditions change.

Re: 1st spawn
I am planning on holding back the best females from this lot for future breeding the rest will be free to anyone interested once to size, any leftovers i have contacts to move them on to, so next spawn will be pretty soon folks (copper male on red crowntail i think) this male is awesome i'll post pics asap.
this time i am going to try to recreate a little bit more of the thai way, I use clay aditives in my koi pond to recreate the mineral base of japanese farms, i am toying with the idea of prepairing the next betta spawn tank with the use of this and to try to create A mud pond in tank enviro....
also i will use a larger tank for ongrowing.
Last thing i want is true type spawns i prefer the luck of the draw with mixed pairs,

Re: 1st spawn
Yup i may be able to get full count soon but i'm guessing just over 100 at the minute, thats causing me a few probs with housing etc but this weekend i should have larger storage setup,
i'm using beanie boxes for jarring [ebay£2 each] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR-VrLub7RY i ran tests on a heat mat and these run at a steady 26.9 night thru to 27c during the day, also i have bigger plastic totes i'll use for growing on the runts.
looking at the colours i may do a rethink and buy me a show grade pair for next spawn as i will probably be giving away this spawn
if anyonese interested in having a lucky bag of the smaller fry say 6-10 for growing on practice just PM me, only prob is they would need collecting.
Its been many years since i bred fish and i found this quite fun and a good reintroduction to the hobby, now i have the setup complete i think breeding a higher grade is a must lol ...
I NEED A SHED!!!!!!
