    9 new females & a male Empty 9 new females & a male

Post by Nataliey Mon Jun 20, 2011 4:38 am

Went on a shopping spree to my lfs as i knew they'd recently had a shipment of females and male bettas, when i went there i was not disappointed...id mainly gone in to buy females and some small tanks for my fry but i couldnt resist the males they had and at £7.95 a male (HM) there was no way i was leaving without one! Embarassed
I did have a very nice friend who told me about the shipment or i would never have known (you know who you are!!)

I havent been able to picture all 9 females but i think i managed the morgority of them, the male looks a lot like Damo's male he recently sold the fry from.

This is the male he's HM and has a shiney greeny/blue body and yellow finnage with black edging, the photo's not that good but he's actually stunning to look at:

These are the females i do have a matching female to the male who i will be attempting to breed in the future:
This is the green bodied yellow finned female to match the above male:

all great finds for the price but although very impressed with some there does look like a few vt/hm in there

I like the red and the copper girl best....pm/email a decent pic of your yellow boy and 'new' girl, her caudal looks a bit long in this thread pic but i know you can't always go by just one picture.

the male as I'd like one along his lines myself. The girls are pretty too of course and I'm very

then again once they're up a bit they could be trined to look after them for you so kids are kept busy and you get to enjoy the fish without all the hard work Wink

note to self* teach children how to do water changes, breed bettas, feed and take pictures! lol

How frustrating! (I know, my tank just had it) Do all of your fish have whitespot? What treatment are you using?

No not every fish has the white spot parasite but im treating the whole tank as i know they may all get it if i didnt.

Im using Interpet white spot meds, iv treated the divided male tank i used to have for white spot so know what to expect, cracked it last time so im starting the meds as soon as i noticed it...(yesterday after id added new females...not happy at all!!)

Ugh I'm sorry to hear you lost so many so quickly. I was going to comment on the fish/kids thing, but I guess kids don't die so easily, so they must be easier to keep!

I guess that's what happens when shops don't quarantine new arrivals. Do you not have a spare tank, Nat, that you could use as quarantine? It's always best practice to segregate new fish for a minimum of 14 days, especially when going in with other fish.
If they'd just had these arrive, then the fish could have been ill for a number of reasons: from the breeder, from the stress of shipping, from the less than ideal water conditions at the shop, being subjected to a bacteria they are not immune to, or even from the frequent change of conditions (breeder - bag - shop - bag - your tank, all within a couple of days).
