male & 2 females

I got a male and 2 females yesterday posted from my usual seller, the male is for my daughter but i would like to pair him with my dragon female with the DT gene.

I also bought a melano female dont think she's fully melano as she has a blue tinge to her under the flash of my camera and a black orchid HM female.

i was told by the seller that the male is an SD but when he flares his tail looks 180 degrees like a hm

If he has a D shaped caudal fin then he is Halfmoon. However most breeders don't consider them Halfmoon if the outer tips of the caudal edge are rounded off too much. His look pointed enough to be HM. I have bought most of my breeder males as Deltas from the fish stores. I don't know if they get switched around when an inexperienced employee changes their cups out or the wholesale fish supplier is just filling in an order. Either way I save money on the deal.

its possible the seller couldn't get a full flare pic so wasn't 100% they carried the full spread so used SD for description to cover themselves, if the fish is young it's tail may spread a bit further over a few weeks-month depending on age and spawn development. You boy looks capable of a decent spread, he'll come close if he doesn't get to full 180


Your melano girl is hit or miss but i'd expect she's breedable... she has enough of the steel blue gene which usually looks more a smocky black metal colour for melano but there's always a slim chance she carries the gene enough to be infertile but if not then she's still got enough of it to give you melano characteristics in the offspring with another melano male.... better idea, assuming she is fertile is to use her with other black toned non-melano males.

melano girl has only two ray branching so allow for that when/if you try to breed her.

Thanks Kel, i maybe able to get myself a melano male from my MH aquatics, they had one last time i went but was for someone else but they've said whenever a betta is ordered for someone and they dont want it il get next look before selling it to anyone.

If not there's always your male i got from you or the sd male i got from MH aquatics.
