DT's just pop up like my Plakats do in my Gold and Copper spawns. They all have DT and PK ancestors so the ones with the right genes have an occassional DTPK.

Looks like some of my spawn are showing a tint of red in their fins already they are generally the smaller one, the bigger fry are looking shiny white and shiney grey/silver but i thought it was too early to show colour yet they are 2 months old on 9th april.

Re: SD X HM hatched 9/2/11*updated pics*
Oh, absolutely not to young. You should be able to take a small spot light or flashlight and show their color at a much earlier age. I have three week olds from my Super Black HM X Gold DT spawn that are showing Gold on 2/3's to 3/4's while the rest are darker. My Purple Red spawn are 1 and 1/2 months old and I can see Green/Red, Blue/Red and Purple/Red on them.

Re: SD X HM hatched 9/2/11*updated pics*
Thanks everyone...im very happy with this spawn
The only thing that worried me the other day was that one of the bigger fry had a smaller one in its mouth carrying it but when it got away the bigger fry chased it round the tank...is the bigger one trying to eat the smaller ones even tho its mouth is too small to actually eat it?

Re: SD X HM hatched 9/2/11*updated pics*
Absolutely!! They have no qualms about cannibalism. If it moves and they think they can eat it they will. That's why I separate the smaller fry at certain times during their growout period.

I don't know your setup but which ever is the easiest as far as how many little to big ones you have. If I have another spawn I can put them in I'll take the same sizes and combine them. If not the big ones will take care of the problem on their own and you wont have any smaller ones.Nataliey wrote:thanks chard i think there maybe a move but do i take the bigger or the smaller fry out?

Re: SD X HM hatched 9/2/11*updated pics*
Iv have noticed the smaller ones do sit on the bottom and dont actually live so i suppose if the bigger ones are to eat them it wouldnt really matter!
Harsh way to look at it but i guess if they where in the wild that would be natures way.

Re: SD X HM hatched 9/2/11*updated pics*
WOW i cant believe how much they've grown since iv been away for a week and as they've only been fed once every other day didnt think there would be much of any difference but im amazed to see they are doing fantastic!!
So here's a few photos id like to share with you all...iv decided on one of my keepers already whatever sex it turns out to be as there is only one!
This is the betta for keeps its silver and white and the only betta this colour:
These are the white, blue and red bettas stunning:
This is one of the blue and red babies and the baby on the right is a red with black trim baby:
This is one of the red and black babies red finnage with a black trim:
This is a group hug of the babies together:
One question though, the red and black babies seem to have a black horizonal line going across their bodies does this mean they are stressed or is it them getting their colour as the other coloured ones havent got the stripes??

Re: SD X HM hatched 9/2/11*updated pics*
the line is normal in fry... both males and females and is just the colour developing.. one day you will look and the stripe will be gone to be replced by their real full colouring. It may be before or after you are first able to sex them.
They're looking good hun and isn't it great to see those ventrals!

Thanks Kel thats good to know that its normal for fry to have those stripes and yes the ventrals are so cute and very good to see...as my first spawn didnt have any (none of my first spawn survived the crowntails)

**THANK YOU** im very happy with these babies but will be so hard to sell they'll be pulling at my heart strings and looking at me with puppy dog eyes (or at least that's what il see, lol!!)
Im going to have to set up another tank for a growout for the bigger babies as they are guarding the food when its dropped in and biting any of the smaller ones if they go near! Bullies, lol!!!
Think it'll be my 17 litre tank next to the fry tank need a proper filter tho .
