Thats alright then, that is always the worry with the females and melanos. Do you sell your homebred stock or just keep them?

You should be pleased with them if they are your first sucessfull spawn. My first spawn wasnt as good as that, most of mine unfortunatley had no ventrals, but since had several spawns and the ventrals have been fine so have worked out were i was going wrong.

I did have a spawn upto the age of around 3 months CT fry but sadly they all had no ventrals apart from 1 but they all died as they where way under their growth sizes...i used micro worms to feed those so i put it down to the bottom feeding as to why they had no ventrals but this spawn i used banana worms and things turned out different dont know why as the worms still fell to the bottom.

Re: SD X HM hatched 9/2/11*updated pics*
Yes see thats exactley what happen with ours, they fed micro worm for quite a while. I thought that maybe the fry mistaked the ventrals for micro worms an they were pecked off and just never grew back. I still fed them micro worm but only for the first 2 weeks then move onto BBS. I still have the odd one who has no ventrals but the rate with is alot higher. My partner has spoke about trying banana worms. Is the culture and harvesting the same as microworm?

I bought a banana worm culture kit from ebay from a lady who i get most of my bettas from (Roxy) i had everything i needed and they grew up the side of the icecream tub, i prefered them to the microworms.
Iv not atempted the BBS but think i should try with my next fry.

My house always has the heating on and is kept warm because kids always say they are cold! Also at the moment i dont have my heaters on in any of my tanks as they are keeping to the right temperature anyway...when it gets closer to winter il be turning heaters back on.

Yeah see I think those tanks are fantastic and exactly what I'm looking for but I am trying to come up with a good way of heating them.
