Black Orchid HM Pair - 12/07/2011

I started a spawn today of a black orchid HM pair, pictures of the pair below.

The female was out of her jar for less than a few minutes before the first embrace, I have seen atleast 30 eggs fall from a single embrace, this has happened at least twice so far! Hoping for a lot of eggs!

They spawned quick!

The Dad is currently working like mad to keep them in the nest, he's not doing a great job of keeping them in there and his nest has deteriorated a bit but he is trying his best!!

This is what I woke to this morning, there are quite a lot more visible now though compared to the picture.

I'm holding my breath about this time and don't let it out until the second day of free swimming and they are eating BBS.

The male is back in his own tank now, I have fed the fry their first meal of microworms!

I'm finding it quite hard to find the fry, I have no idea how many of them there are or where they are.

This is how my tank is laid out, a few plants and that is a half coconut with moss, I'm guessing they could be hiding among that.

Edit: I can see about 5 at any one time scattered around the tank, I guesstimated 50+ fry in the nest.

The fry seem to be going strong, I fed them their first BBS today and they are all swimming around with full pink bellies

I counted 36 fry in a quick check on the tank a few days ago, so there are bound to be more than that hiding somewhere

I hope there are more hiding for you.

About 9 days old here, after some BBS:

About 16 days old here, eating some microworms! We counted over 50 fry in the tank today

They look fantastic keep up the good work
