DTHM x HM spawn diary

Hello Betta lovers

Right been reading Natalies diary on her spawns and it is good reading other peoples experiences and what their up to. Sooo i thought as i have just set up a pair tonight i'll start a thread to keep you all updates.

K the pair i have set up have already spawned before in March. They are the parents of my Diamond Line (i just thought of random names to identify lines) The spawn from back then are all doing great and the colours are amazing. I want to spawn the parents again to produce more then to cross breed to intense colours and patterns. We put them in the tank about 9pm, male free swimming for a while, then placed in the female in. The male is already building a nest. So things are already looking promising!

They are a lovely pair

This is the nest that he has built over night. The female has now been released. He is already trying to entice her under thenest but she is playing hard to get.

well not so good news folks the spawn didnt go as planned. The female ended up getting too impatient and attacked the male he isnt too badly beaten which is good he just hasnt got perfect fins anymore. So she is now re cupped. Fingers crossed this will calm her down. The male has been taken out to rest and the back up male for the spawn has been placed in. He has taken the nest over and adding bubbles to it himself. Dependening on how she is tomorrow she may be released in the morning.

Ohh that's not good at all I hope it all works out!

im no expert but i would let the female free swim with the new male for about 5mins for 2 days then let her go on the 3rd day in the AM.if she is still barred up and the male is fixed on getting eggs in his nest!!

Well we let her free swim for a few minutes this evening, she swam straight under the nest checked it out, he followed, She gave him some nudges and lowered her head. He didnt play along so she literally bit hold of his tail and didnt let go. She was cupped soon as i could get her. So he now has a chunk out of his lower caudal fin (hes a DThm) I will release and watch her again tomorrow morning see how she goes. Just hope she hasnt gone all sour in her age :-)

Does anyone else have any ideas for solving problems with male beating females?

did you tape the leave so it stays on top??? 0.0

Yeah used masking tape, you can see it in the picture of the nest :-)

Yeah i did they spent time under the nest again her nudging him and trying to push him into the embrace position but he werent having it so he went for her and there was a chase around the tank for a bit. I had to re cup her again because i had to go deal with my lil girl so i couldnt keep an eye on them. Going to release her for a bit again at luch time. But i think i will go with your thinking on this one and release the female properly tomorrow morning.

Good lcuk Dawn got my fingers crossed for you i know how frustrating it can be when spawns dont go to plan believe me iv had quite a few over the past couple of months.

Hi sorry havent been online...

No didnt have any luck. :-( but got another 2 pairs set in there spawning tanks today. With the other two i have now seperated them and both in re conditioning. It will have to be a little while longer for that male to spawn again because once again she tore him up a bit...luckily not as bad as what she did to the last male she was with.

The two pairs that with been matched are siblings to each other. Hopefully these will spawn. Just not havingmuch luck with my june spawns, I normally try and get 2 spawns each month. So far this month.....none..... but i wont stop trying hopefully getting a couple more males this weekend. If i do i'll post their pictures on here.

Sorry i havent been online for ages my laptop went down,,, but thats all sorted now :-)

The 2 sibling pairs i mentioned last they successfully spawned and have free swimming fry. They are now both 10 days old, and have little white bellies.

Also got a new male, copper dt. And he has spawn yesterday with a royal blue hm. Hes still in there at the moment tending to the nest. Although starting to get worried as hes not re building the nest.
