Hi guys, does anyone keep count of the ratios of their spawn characteristics? I'm interested to see if we can find out anything about the genetics of these traits.

Re: Spawn ratios
It'd be very difficult as you can't tell which are the ones who died off early. You might think you've found a way to get an all male spawn, when in fact the girls died off at a couple of days of age.

Re: Spawn ratios
I agree Time, however, some data is better than none. Also the bigger the sample available, the smaller the error. Hopefully, if say, 10 of us tried a HM x SD cross, we would hopefully have a half decent guess at what the ratios would be. And, unless death is sexist, or there was a faulty gene that discriminated against males or females eg. infertile Melanos, statistics with a sufficiently large sample base should even out the ratios. Just suggesting ideas that may be useful to us all. The data is available with every spawn. No point letting it all go to waste. My 2 cents worth

Re: Spawn ratios
One thing I have noticed in my early spawn attempts with less than ideal conditions, bbs not hatching, feeding worms solely too long etc. I had a far higher female count than male and i do think the females are hardier than males.
I will have a hunt to see if I can find any scientific research on the ratio stuff
but definately that might be worth doing.. estimate of egg count, how many appear to hatch, fry numbers and conditions, then to 3-4 month old are they on target for size, stunted deformaties, curled fins or bent spines and any lost on the way
