Just Started another spawn !

Ive just started another spawn with my crown tails. The male is a blue,red,purple colour and the female is a lovely red colour. The female is definitly showing interest she keeps swimming up to the male every now and again and flaring and checking out the nest then she swims away and hides a little. The male chases her occasionally but he spends alot of time displaying and tending the small nest hes built.

I have them in a divided tank (obviously ive removed the divider) the tank is 18 x 6.5 x 9 and i have some fake plants and a small plant pot in there.

Does all of the above seem ok for a hopfully successful spawn ?

It's all sounding very positive so far! Especially if the male is intent on building a nice nest and the female is liking it.

I prefer the larger tanks for spawning, as you only fill it up to about 5", it allows for a bigger volume of water and thus less build up of waste. I've lost a few spawns due to bad water quality and I've never looked back on my upgrade. However, many people seem to get on fine with the smaller tanks.

I'd put some real plants in there. You don't need to bury them, just have them floating on the surface. They won't die and the fish will appreciate it. I use the cut-offs from my community tank.

Then again, all that I've said is down to personal experience. I'm sure many people would say it's all unnecessary lol

Woke up this morning an the male has made the bubble nest alot bigger and he's tending to it all the time. I cant see any eggs though. The female just watches him from a distance. So far so good. Really Hope they spawn. Fingers crossed. Still sound ok guys ?

Yer mate that sound ok to me, if they had done the deed the male would try and kill the female. So your ok

Or not. My males have always ignored the female after spawning, to tend the nest. If the female is a distance away and/or hiding, then the male shouldn't bother too much about her. It gives you plenty of time to remove her gently without getting into a panic (and destroying the nest).

I guess its diffrent with every male and female time, as soon as my female finished the first time round. He was straight after her even at a distance. Then again i may just have strange fish lol.

Or possibly mine are just the most pacific fish out there. When I first started, I was really worried, after having read up that the male WILL kill the female. Turns out, they just couldn't be bothered lol

They have just started to embrace. No eggs as yet, hopefully they will come soon.

The eggs are coming. I just hope that the male doesnt eat them. Hes quite young so there's a chance he could. Fingers crossed.

Dont worry. Ive covered the tank but ill need to get the female out at some point, i hate that bit im always scared that i will disturb the male.

I was just joking. Whenever mine spawn, I'm on tiptoes. Daren't even peek!

The female was taken out with ease, All i did was put the divder back in the tank when she swam to the other side, then ive got some black plastic over the divider so the male cant see her. Fingers crossed he doesnt eat the eggs, theres hundreds, literally.
