I thought I'd try breeding some Big Ears since they seem to be so popular. I had seen this Salamander HMPK in Petco for over a week so while I had the money I decided to buy him. I'll try to spawn him with one of my Purple Plakat females and see what I come up with. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Good one Chard! I've seen a couple big ears lately at a couple of chains stores.

Nothing so far. He's made a nice and neat little nest in the corner and they are getting along fine but no wrapping yet.

Re: Big Ears HMPK
They spawned Monday and I see little tails hanging down today. Not a big spawn so I may spawn them again in 10 days or so. The camera I have now won't focus on fry that small and with the oak leaf tea it's hard to see them anyway. I'll try to post some pics when they are a little bigger.

Yeah is right! I'm pretty excited about this spawn and am curious to see if I get big eared fry. I guess we'll see in about a month or so.

Re: Big Ears HMPK
So far when crossing another color type into my Purple strain the resulting offspring come out a certain percentage Purple. There isn't any F1 all Green with Red wash like most other crosses I've done. It seems to be a very dominant color. I think the least amount is about 25% and 50 to 75% in F2 or F3 spawns. The 2 and 1/2 month old spawn I have growing out is from one of my F4 Purple Red Delta females I bred to a White Overhalfmoon male with Red and Blue finnage and they look like they are going to be about a fourth to one third Purple colored.
