mahachai spawn

A pair of my mahachai betta spawned this morning.

There's a nice little clump of eggs int he nest. I'll try and up the pics later.

Fingers crossed the male doesn't eat the eggs this time!!

He's looking like a well behaved Daddy at the min

Can you make out the eggs on the right hand side of the nest?

The eggs were hatched when I checked this morning so I took a few more pics

Update*

As I was afraid of the male ate the babies the night after taking pictures.. Was going to remove him next day as they would have been free swimming by then.

But goodnews

I set upa different pair and now have 4 day old fry. This time I took the male out as soon as they were all hanging in the nest.

The fry are doing well. I'll update pics soon.

Around 6 weeks old now but small.. as soon as i can get them weened to dry foods they'll bulk up fast.

Wild types always seem that bit harder to adjust.

I should have a few pairs of mahachai available in about 4-8 weeks all being well

The one's i'll be selling are still a bit small... hopefully I'll have a few pairs ready to go in a couple of weeks.

I'll see what I can do... I really need to split them first.. They're quite shy and shoal together at the tinyest thing

Plus if they get frightened they go from their vibrant black to pale brown in seconds... Will probably have to leave the camera in front of the tank for an hour so they get used to it lol
