Fry Video - 27May

Thought I'd do a little thread on the various spawns I've got going at the moment.

You probably remember the marble boy i spoke about the couple weeks back when his colour change shocked me.....had a spawn from him 6wks ago...with this female.




Here's there fry.....6wks old tomorrow, only 13 from this spawn. They're eating small bloodworm and brineshrimp now, usually give them the small left over bits after feeding the adults.
Variety in colours, greeny/blues like parents, however a couple greeny/whites and a few coppers! :-S





I'm pretty sure this one is a male.......bit blurry but the shape looks like it

After my one of my HMPK boys ate the eggs the last time I spawned him, I tried him again today with a different HM female. Here they are spawning...






So, second time lucky, hopefully he wont eat them, currently has them all clumped up in the nest in the corner.
It seems to be overnight he tends to eat them if he does.....

Those are great looking fry. To bad there isn't a few more.

I do favor the bi-coloiur with the black edging quite a bit. Maybe you should stick him in a breeding trap overnight if the timing might allow for it. It could be taking a big chance though. How about leaving the light on or some kind of distraction?

Yeh, i was contemplating just taking him out.....i mean, do the males actually do anything thats needed at this time apart from re-arranging the nest, picking up fry or EATING them?

I do leave a little spotlight on when my males are tending to eggs. The eggs are still there at the moment?

Doesn't the male return the fallen fry to the nest until they are free swimming. Of course you
might not want to tempt him either. He could forget his real purpose and munch on the way up.

Well I'm going to leave it as it is, see what's happened in the morning.
With the last spawn he did seem to venture away from the nest alot and leave the eggs and nest, however he does seem to be paying more attention this time and actually guarding it.
Oh well fingers crossed. Will let u know.....

Eggs are still there, however they've been moved somewhat. Male is hiding in a pot the other side of the tank.....I'm hoping he doesn't do anything naughty whilst am at work today...

We have fry!!!

He's managed the day without consuming any and is being very attentive. Looks like he's learned his lesson.
Not sure how many there are, but have seen a few.

Then lets hope it will be quality rather than quanity.

I admire how quick your fry colour up. I hope that your other spawn is just as successful.

Yeh I'm more after quality than quantity. I'm not one to have 200 of the same types, i like my various varieties.

Some very nice looking fry there and oh my they are big for the age too Way to go, will be watching this with interest..

After my last HMPK spawn failed...when the male ate the eggs (AGAIN!!! ) I'm going to try one of my other PK's....bought this one couple weeks back now. Good nest builder.
I bought him about 3wks ago now....i quite sure he's dragon-ish...




I'm abit confused about which female to use.....



the male has abit of red in him, so i guess that may block out the yellow if used that female?

Here's my MG spawn, currently 6 wks old. Must be about 50+ in here, plus the 1 DT the only one that survived another spawn.

Liking the edging to the fins on these guys, the mother had yellow finnage with a thick black band around edges, looks like it's carried through.

Looking good to my eyes, especially since I'm partial to the MG's. If one of us was on the
other side of the pond I'd order a pair from you. Oh well! Nice spawn IMO!
