Right, not ready yet! But I now have my breeding tank! it's a nice plain oblong 60 ltr tank, so a nice size So obviously first thing it to set it up with water and plants etc. I need a divider (Keeeelllll!)to keep the girl away from the male for a bit (or will something else be better?), what else do I now need to be preparing? All fish are fed on bloodworms mostly anyway so dont think they need to be conditioned? Verrry slow walkthrough here - Beginner alert LOL

Re: My attempts!
I wouldnt use a divider - I personally used a cut off coke bottle.
Bare bottom is best, anda choice of places for the male to nest. I put in half a poly cup, IAL and bubble wrap - works wonders

Re: My attempts!
deffo lots of luck!
On a side note I did have lots of plants in there for the actual spawn but afterwards I took the plants out as Kel told me it is much easier to care for the babies and I have to say it is!

Re: My attempts!
One question re the coke bottles. I know I've not tried it yet, but what do you do, just float the bottle with her in it in the tank? (Yes I know, going to be a slow process LOL)

Re: My attempts!
yup thats it
also plan now for fry feeding.. what are you gonna feed them the first days after their egg runs out... they can't eat even just hatched bbs at this stage.
Then what's gonna be their main diet for the next two months?
also do you have a fry filter?
you will need one specific if you want best results
dunno if you noticed the filters in my cubes on the bench.. black foam ones with air bubbles in middle?
most filters will kill the fry as soon as they catch in the flow so it's either a super gentle foam filter or none at all.

Re: My attempts!
cut off the top and bottom
you have a tube (like a loo roll) to put her in and is easy to release her and at times re-tub her.
Just ensure you cut it as flat as possible - I have had many escapees from a wonky bottle
