Hi,

I stumbled across you guys when looking for a Betta, and thought it would good to join up for some advice etc...
I am looking to buy my first Betta in the next few weeks once my tank is up and running.

I have never owned a Betta before, but my other half currently has a large tropical tank, in which he is proud to have a breeding pair of Discus and he also has a stupidly large marine tank which I believe is the love of his life... and if asked to pick over me or the marine tank I suspect I might come second

If you could point me in the direction of someone who breeds half moons I would be very grateful, as I am finding it very difficult to find something I really like.
Short of importing one from Thailand I am really struggling.

LOL @ the marine tank. Does he spend hours lovingly rearranging a single piece of coral? I think my other half feels the same way about me and my chickens. He keeps talking about this holiday we have coming up and "getting away from everything" (aka the chickens).

You've come to the right place, if you're after bettas. Most memeber son here breed their own, so there is nearly always stock available or growing up. I tranship, if you decide to import.
As for advice, you can't get much better either. Kel is currently writing the ultimate betta book.

You know, a betta would get on fine with discus... maybe you should think about getting two... or you will after you've got your first one; they're so addictive!

Welcome to the group I have some halfmoon babies but there only 3 weeks so won't be ready for a while, can point you in the direction of some other breeders/sellers though

Awww no don't say that.. I have already been thinking about getting a girl to go in with the Discus, and possibly even having a go at breeding.

I have not even got one and I am addicted!
I have been reading up loads.

At one point we had four well established large tropical tanks at our house... I can see this may be a problem if I get totally hooked


ROFL... I did laugh about the moving one piece of coral, my other half drives me insane!
The latest gadget is some drip feed thing that goes into the sump, this means that apparantly he wont have to spend too long each day fiddling... but I have seen no change in the amount of time he spends with his head in the cupboard

He'll now spend a bit of time each day admiring this new gadget! When we first got a Fluval G6, my other half was pressing the buttons every five minutes just to check the readings. "look! the conductivity has gone down by 1 microsiemens!" "That's lovely, dear." Boys and their toys... But if a fish dares to be ill, he gets all stroppy and huffy!

Now, you want to have at least two girls in case he doesn't like one of them... So we're up to two males and two females already and you haven't even got a tank lol

If you do get to the point where you want more but can't find the room, send Nat on here a layout of your house. She can squeeze bettas into corners you never knew you had

New tank arrived today!!!!

Setting it up this evening... and the hunt for my first Betta can start soon

I am very excited and have been searching high and low for something I like but I am really struggling.

I have had a look on Aquabid... but I just don't know if I can justify the price of shipping one over.

Does anyone organise a group buy type thing?
Just a thought to keep the price down a bit

I suppose the desire can out weigh the cost. In any event you have the time as your tank
still needs to cycle. There are folks that are willing to help you here I'm sure.
