Re: Ive got wrigglers !
I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow, right now they are so tiny I can hardly see them when Im squinting lol. Dad's fab, last time I spawned him he had a HUGE load of eggs to look after, this looks a bit more managable for him about 30 max I think from trying to count tails hanging out of the bubbles lol
Lets hope I dont make a mistake like last time

Re: Ive got wrigglers !
I'm sure you'll do great magz, can't wait to see some pretty pink babies in the future! I've definately learnt from the mistakes I made with my first spawn, it's all a learning curve.
Hmmm...Lou you really should start work on a new divided tank :-P

Re: Ive got wrigglers !
Quick update, I think I have in the region of 20 fry in the tank. Ive not had any deaths for a while, hopefully Im past the very vulnerable stage. Some of them have gotten really big, all little fat bellies and the largest 4 or 5 are starting to show colour on their anal fins and tails. They are also starting to beg for food when I walk past the tank lol

Re: Ive got wrigglers !
They are almost a month old now hatched around the 11th or 12th of last month. Ive ahd a few deaths and I was worried cos 3 died all at once and it looked like the had fungus or somthing fuzzy at the back end (anal area). Did emergency water changes and monitored them but no more seem to be ill, dont know what caused it but one thing Im worried about is seperating the unhatched BBS from the hatched ones, Im using a pipette to suck the swimmers up but I end up getting some eggs too and Ive heard bad things about them eating the eggs. Is it true it can impact them or give them swim bladder disease ?

Re: Ive got wrigglers !
you will get the occasional one with the swim bloat and a bit unbalanced but as long as you avoid the egg cases as much as possible you should be fine... also your babies are getting big now.. eating a one off egg shell won't stress them like it would to a 2 week old fry
good way to get just the bbs is find a single led bulbed torch... wrap a cloth or paper round the bbs hatching tub but just let the light shine into mid water depth
the bbs will crowd the light source and hopefully your deep enough to avoid the floating shells but also high enough up to avoid accidentially sucking up the sucken ones too.
only collect those bbs right in front of the torch, 5 mins later you'll have a crowd more gathered in front of it.

Re: Ive got wrigglers !
Ye I been hatching them in a glass pint jug and placing the jug next to the tank so they get attracted to the aquarium light, then using a pippette to suck up the ones that gather at the side of the jug. I still seem to get quite a few egg casings tho. They gather around the sides of the tank on the water line grrrrr

Re: Ive got wrigglers !
Some more picture updates, these guys are almost 2 months old and starting to look like little adults I can even see egg spots on some of the larger ones. Pictures were taken using the iPhone (and it was me taking them) so quality isnt great, my apologies
Im worried about the tiny fry you can see in the background of the last picture. Hes so small compared to the others but he doesnt seem to be ill or anything he just doesnt appear to be growing at all lol. Is it worthwhile putting him in his own tub so he has no competition for food ?
Another thing Im wondering, I bred these from HM parents the babies dont look to be half moon atm, will the tails continue to develop ? I know you dont get 100% HM from a HM spawn but I was hoping to see a couple.

Re: Ive got wrigglers !
I would seperate the smaller one, he may eventually get picked on.
The reason I presume you get some small ones is because the other (bigger) ones snatch all the food, I seperated my smallest one and it doubled in size in a week of being on its own.
They all look fantastic btw!
