Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
I thought I'd add some new blood to my Copper/Gold line. I didn't want to post anything until I was sure I had something to show for it. I put the Gold Dalmation Double tail I bought recently in with one of my Copper DT girls and was rewarded with a nice smooth no fighting clean non fin damaged spawn. He had an inch high 4 inch in diameter bubble nest going and took great care of the fry. I took him out last night and today found that he was taking care of the one fry that he must have had in his mouth when I moved him to a gallon jar. He is the best Dad I've had. There are more fry in the tank than a stray cat has fleas. This is also the first time I've had DT's from two different lines to spawn as I didn't want to spawn sibling DT's and have a lot of deformed fry to contend with. I'm hoping these don't have any either.

Ohhhh, how completely gorgeous, what beautiful colours. Congrats on it all going smoothly so far ^^ I hope the fry are all healthy, sounds like you have loads, I always think they look like mosquitos skittering around the tank LOL. How old are they now, 3 - 4 days?

Re: Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
Spawn date October the 4th. There are loads of them. If I don't lose a bunch it will probably be the biggest fry count I've ever had. They are already scattered through out the water column instead of hugging the top of the water along the edges like a lot of new fry. Very encouraging. My last several spawns with my Coppers didn't give me very many fry.

Fab news, I only wish I lived in the US so I could nab some of those babies when they're older :-) Hopefully we can see some *cough* pics soon? ^^

Re: Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
I rescued another one from Dad's tank. The poor little guy was desperately trying to get away but Dad just kept sucking him up and spitting him back in the nest. The Dad doesn't even seem fazed by the grueling 4 day 24 hour a day ordeal. I kept a light on at night and any other male I've done this with takes a week or two to recooperate. What a trooper! Lots of little pink bellies in the fry tank from eating BBS already. I'm so impressed with this spawn, I wish all of them where this good.

Can just imagine that scene, little fry trying to sneak out the nest behind dad's back!!! What a great dad, you're so lucky Chard!

Re: Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
I took two more out later that evening and this morning he is still looking around for fry to tend. He must have been in the middle of a round up when I moved him. I think I just about could leave him in 'til the fry were fully grown.

Whoa................you have a serious pest problem in that tank ;-) They look so big and healthy and just 10 days old. Can't wait to see their little double tails developing. When does that start to happen?

Re: Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
I've been trying to look with my magnifying glass but they are too small yet for my eyes to see. I think I saw double tails on a few but can't be certain. It sucks being over 50 and my arms aren't long enough anymore. I can't even read this without mild reading glasses.

Re: Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
longer wait but should be more exciting when you can see them properly!
don't understand your arms shrinking though!
I have a height prob at 5'1" and top tanks are at near 7' from the ground.. I need a stool for everything lol
I'm glad the spawings are going so well for you now though... you'll be ready for your own bettashop before you know it!

Re: Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
Refusing to get or wear glasses I've been holding whatever I'm trying to read at arms length. That doesn't work very well any more so it must be that my arms aren't long enough. If I can get my oldest son to take over my mobile home and my partner and his wife to get their crap out of the store down in Arkansas I intend to put a feed store/fish store in it and live in the back. Having the store and struggling to make the payment and keep a household running makes it hard to have the money to stock and open a business.

Re: Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
Sounds like you're due to be a bit selfish hun.... why pay for a store if you can't maximise profit from it, even if it means being dual purpose.
I'd push the balance with the possible earnings you could create and charging for your fraction of storage area rental, I assume basic shop business is split 50/50 but if they're taking potential profit away via storage then it's def acceptable to expect them to pay more for the cost while storing non profit stuff in a potentially profitable space.
I dunno how you have the overall business split but is it worth offering a trial run on covering their basic storage costs for a month or two while you take over the back?
They're taking potential space after all, either they should put extra to cover the difference or do the trial storage, if it works then you'll make more profit and also reverse things, they may have to pay the ongoing storage but get more profit long term because of a thriving business or you paying them for the extra space you're using at the back

Re: Gold Dalmation DT X Copper DT
Long story but they have the two bay garage in back, he's a mechanic; and her and I were to share the store for a flea market. Since she thinks she has to take 50% of everything I have for sale because I work and can't be there I just quit bringing stuff and told her not to sell my things if she thinks she has to have the lions share. She doesn't even open any more and hasn't for some time. I've told them in the past of my intentions but she'd always say, "No me and my girlfriend are going to open back up" and it never happens. I told them I was going to move in there and No IF's AND's or BUT's so I might get what I want for a change. "D" doesn't have a problem with it but his money grubbing penny pinching wife is going to have her come uppance soon.
