Re: Welcome magpie
Thanks all
This is an exploratory visit - I'm setting up a planted tank (90x75x45) which is probably too big - tho' I had though perhaps of having a sorority of female bettas as centrepiece fish among some coral pencils, hyalobagrus catfish, and rasboras in a community setup.
My smaller tank is 35 x 303 x 30 and is also going to be heavily planted and that's the one I'm thinking might suit a betta male - I had originally planned it for crystal red shrimp and nano fish but... I keep looking at bettas and thinking that if I have this sitting next to my work desk every day, maybe that would be more fun.
so here to check out. Both tanks are starting under Dry Start Method which means growing the plants out under high humidity for 6-8 weeks (actually, probably more like 4 months on the grounds that I'm heading low tech/non CO2 afterwards) so lots of time to prepare. ..
big tank from the front (it's got less sand and more substrate/plants now - I removed some of the sand from the foreground and replaced it with Hemianthus) - both of these pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago, so we have more growth now:

Re: Welcome magpie
Oh they are going to look gorgeous whne finished!!!
Want to come and some aquascaping for me? lol
Your little tank is perfect for a male betta and he'll definately keep you company while you work. They have great personalities and no doubt a betta will do his best to distract you with his antics for attention

Yep - I like the plakats a lot - which is why I'm here - it's either that or shrimp and nano-fish... I've got a month's more growing out to do before I fill it, so plenty of time to decide...
