My DT was doing really well during his quarantine......so i added a female to the tank, totally seperated from the water he was in to see if he would actually like her, preparing for my plans i mentioned in the genetics thread.

He built a great bubblenest overnight after the first day the female was in there. The females has been conditioned for 3 and a half weeks, so was in great condition for spawning and coloured up quickly.

Woke up the morning two days after adding her and she had jumped in with him....nothing happened, so put her back in her container.
Went to work that day and came home to find she'd jumped in again and they had spawned already...nest was FULL of eggs!!!

So removed her, male tended to the nest and he has been removed today.
This is my best batch to date, there was so many fry, and to me the female didn't look big enough at the time to be carry so many eggs, but there are looooads of fry!!!!! affraid

I'm abit annoyed cause i didnt have a chance to get pics or vids of them spawning which i always do....sad that may sound.

It's going to be a struggle to get pics as have added so many live plants to the tank, the fry have retreated into the depths and are hiden.

...but hey it's a start!! Very Happy ...both male and female are doing great.

Will get some pics of fry up soon, just thought i'd let you know!

    For now the male was...

Female (this pic is old, her tail has healed now and aint got a good pic yet)

Is there anything I can get to put in the water which wont effect the fry that will kill the snails??

I dont think so - the guys in MHA told me the esha snail treatment but tbh there's no way i'd risk it on my fry, not worth it. you can try putting a piece of lettuce in for 30 mins or so, the snails should go to it. Try floating it on the surface so it's easy to remove without disturbing fry

Today again, believe it or not my HM BF's spawned whilst i was at work, female jumped out the breeding trap
.....im thinking these breeding traps are not very pratical as the females seem to be jumping out at great success when they want to!! Rolling Eyes

...anyway it's great anyhow as was preparing for it.

I'm just wondering, do you think its pratical as these spawns are basically around the same age as spawned within 24hrs from each other, i can move one of the batches into the same tank and combine them?

Hello, just thought i'd give you an update on this thread as haven't for awhile.

All the fry are doing great, some are seperated now (the largest ones) into another grow out tank.
There are 65 in total, well when i counted on monday, which is a comfortable amount i think for 4 spawns combined. I'm very pleased with there growth by looking at the last pics i posted on the 17th dec.
One thing i have noticed, i dont know whether its because its a few various spawns together and they can tell some are not from the same brood, but the aggression is coming out already, and fast. No damage, but chasing one another is common! Shocked

Colours are already starting to showing, various colours and I'm hoping to determine which ones were which once they mature. Although the largest, cambo looking ones are the DT cross.
All the spawns included one of the parents being dragon, expect one pair which were both dragon, and i think...well presuming, you maybe able to see from the pictures below, some bright patches of colour towards the head, im thinking maybe that is a patch of dragon scaling coming out...? please correct me if am wrong.

Here's some pictures of the larger batch (excuse thier poops, they poop like crazy! Lol)

You can make out the colours in these....just. I think most if not all look dragon. Excuse the boys in the background, they were floating whilst i was cleaning there tanks.

I know, i seriously haven't been able to stop looking at them. the colours are getting brighter and brighter each day. its so exciting.

Strange though, with my other spawn of 10, only 2 have there ventural fins Shocked the others just dont have them, where as these all do.
i believe it true what i think kel said, sometimes they just dont grow them when they stick to the floor too much, and i did use alot of worms from cultures on that spawn, whereas ive used mostly BBS on these and they all have them.

    Funny isnt it.
