Ive got a male solid black HM, i've heard the solid black female HM's are not fertile...not sure if true or i may be thinking of something else. but then you dont need to spawn them do you, there just pretty.

hey thats great bae, i'll get on to find a female for him over the weekend if not before... fingers crossed i can get you one in the next two weeks Wink

If not, breed him with the copper girl! she'll work well with him even if you get very few deep black you'll get great fry colours regardless hun

black, blk lace, blk orchid, poss black devil, green, metallic green, blues, coppers and even chances of white! Shocked

you may get soe red washes in fry but minimal.

His true finnage without the damage repair was 100% show smooth so its more colour variation and overall tail spread you need to worry about!

Even tho his tail isnt perfect it gives him a unique frilly look as he's supposed to look like that, lol!

I was thinking of trying the copper girl with him as she is showing a lot of interest in him last night as they can see each other...bubble nest looks good but will need to set up a breeding tank.

Jims site info is 4-5 years out of date.. we now have superblack which actually looks darker than melano.. (like a molly black). then you have the lace and orchids which are all fertile (from the multicolour blackgeno backgrounds).

Its only melano females that can't be bred.

Don't forget Marble Black and Double Black. I'm supposed to get Double Black from my Black Orchid X Copper spawn. So far at 5 weeks they look half and half dark and really dark. Maybe Black and the lighter ones Copper? Won't know for sure until they grow more and color up.

super balck and double black are the same thing (i think) lol

just two dff terms for the same intense black

aren't genetics and colours complicated, especially when the names are for individual spawn lines lol

will be good to see how your's progress chard.. I know copper is often produced in the black orchid lines but haven't delved into it much myself personally

I just stumbled onto it. I couldn't get my Black Devil CT female to breed with my Black Orchid CT male so I spawned her with one of my Copper CT males. Then I bred a female from that spawn to my Black Orchid male. Awhile after that spawn I read that article in bettysplendens on Black Orchid X Copper. I was just hoping to get some Black Orchids in a couple generations and just happened to be running blind in the right direction. Luck? Intuition? I don't know what to call it, I'm just excited with all these new colors and fins that weren't around when I was a teenager and I want them ALLLLL!!
