    Calcifer Empty Calcifer

Post by Nataliey Sat Jul 31, 2010 1:50 am

Iv named my new betta Calcifer, as he's very colourful and he's one of my favourite characters from the film in 'Howls moving castle' although not same colours.
This is Calcifer my new betta:

His colours are so shimmery and gorgeous iv looked closely and his body looks white and silver/grey, then his fins and tail look silver/grey then pink and on the tips coppery. What do you guys think?

    Calcifers flare in the mirror:

Flared at my females and chased them all over the tank, but i knew there was a chance he could be a boy as i bought as a possibility could be female but was also told could be a juvenile male. In a divided tank now so my females can de-stress themselves! He's been flaring at Ragga-muffin on the other side of the divide too.

I know in the ebay auction it said possible female or juvenile male but the thing is his flare looks round under his chin and he's been flaring in the mirror and at poor ragga-muffin through the mesh! Iv put him in the divided tank as he was seriously stressing out my girlsand they where all hiding away from him.

Anyone know what that is? or is it where he has a poo?

I heard that young males can have what looks like an ovipositor which disappears when they mature. Judging from the fins hes looks like a young male to me but Im far from great at identifying lol

Would be good if we could see a head on pic of him/her flaring, if he/she has the extensions to his/her beard then you could be sure its a male

Well he's been with the seller for a few weeks now and doesn't seem to have changed much. Could be a cross male hence shorter fins, but I've always said female and Im sticking to it LOL

Thanks guys, i went to look at him before and i had a face to face encounter with his flare its so big and flarey (if that makes sense!) and how could he flare at me...his mummy!

I think im going to have to but a sheet of black plastic or something in there, he keeps looking at ragga-muffin and really going for it, dont want him to hurt himself either.

@ Mandy ~ before i bought him i thought defo female has to be just look at the size of that white spot! But now just from behavour i most certainly think boy! Rolling Eyes

Defo male, and why flare at you, a little unfair as you his mummy.
He is different eyes as well, they all black instead of having two different colours in them. A good buy. Was it LFS may i ask ?

I know very unfair but i forgive him as he has the cutest face ever! lol!

Iv been looking at the white spot thing and it looks like 2 thin white strips stuck together. Im going to google on web see what it is as its not where he has a poo!

I cant believe how much he flares too, flared at me again this morning and when i was making the babies bottles!

Enjoyed his pea this morning though Smile
