It doesn't HAVE to be in the water, I'd be just as happy doing it on dry land! But you're right I now have 7 different batches going at once, that's more than I've had in the last 3 years put together.

I'm thinking he'll be ditching the mattress and laying planks of wood across his bed. You could get over 100 jars on there and sleep on the sofa :-)

I built the platform and frame for my bed so the wood is already there for more grow out tanks and the window ledge might hold 20 or 30 jars......Nah!, I don't like the coach that much. I switched out the Cambodian female for a Copper one in the Dragon boys tank yesterday luckily. I just checked in on them and yes you guessed it, a nest full of future possible Dragon babies!!! That's eight new spawns in 12 days. I may as well seal the whole bedroom and make it a rice paddy.

The first batch of fry in this segment are 16 days old. There looks to be 80 or more and they are looking good sized already. They seem to be half and half dark ones and light or Cambodian. I put their parents together last night and have a couple hundred eggs in the nest today. The Green BFHM fry are just as many and just as big and put the parents together today. I figure as SH#*TY as my last year was I'm taking advantage and plan to do two spawns each of the last eight. The 5th generation Copper CT's babies (only 2 dozen) are on baby brine shrimp as are the Black Orchids 60 to 80 and the 2nd Giant spawn numbering close to 100 as opposed to the first Giant batch of 20 some. I'm going to have to go to a lot of garage sales to buy up every vase and jar I can find! Finally a new spawn! - Page 3 My_bed20Finally a new spawn! - Page 3 My_bed21

The Copper/Gold CT fry are down to a dozen so I bred them again yesterday. If he doesn't eat so many this time there looks to be a good clutch of eggs. I knew my little brown wh uh slu umm tramp would come through for me. She is spawning with my huge Giant male. I bet he outweighs her 5 or 6 times. Quite a sight! They're in a plastic tub so pictures won't be the best. Finally a new spawn! - Page 3 Quasim16Finally a new spawn! - Page 3 Quasim17Finally a new spawn! - Page 3 Quasim18Click on image to enlarge. If I get fry out of this she will have babies with three different fathers.

Went job searching and when I got back there wasn't any more eggs than when I left. He was pretty fat when they started but... I guess I'll forgive him and chock it up to it being his first time. I took them both out, siphoned the water down to an inch and added methylene blue so I might get a few out of the dozen or so eggs to hatch.

I find it hard to judge how many eggs are in a nest. Do you have a trick to share?

A bright light and thick as coke bottle bottoms reading glasses that I can only look at things 6 inches away and not for very long or my head will hurt. Not good for reading but looking for Betta eggs works well. The light shines through the bubbles and highlights the white eggs.

I'm guessing a magnifying class would work too? I'll try next time. At least they don't wriggle all over the place when you're trying to count!

How many lots of fry have you got out of the hundreds of spawns you did the other day?
Do you put them all together in one tank for grow-out or keep them separate? (Have I already asked that question? I feel like I have...)

I use a magnifying glass a lot but it has to be close range. I have 11 different batches of fry and one batch of eggs about ready to hatch. My last two batches of fry I combined because one was Copper and the other half Cambodian half Green Cellophane so there wasn't a problem not knowing who came from what spawn. As it is now I can't (so far) tell the difference between my Red HM fry and the Blue Giant's. They both have light and dark ones. Without coloring up yet I can't tell them apart. The Green BFHM fry on the other hand are shiny light green already even though they are the same age as the Red HM's. I'm sure I'll be combining quite a few or buying more tanks to keep them separate!

As I walked by this tank out of the corner of my eye it looked like little white fleas gathered in the corner so I took advantage and snapped a picture. Finally a new spawn! - Page 3 Dsc02513

Green BFHM fry were a month old on Wednesday, so here's a new picture. Finally a new spawn! - Page 3 My_bed23My Copper/Gold, Cambo and Cello girls are quite the little heifers. Most are bigger than their parents at 4 months and a week old. I missed a call late Friday from the owner of several pet stores about buying my Betta's. I'll have to call him back Monday and hopefully he'll buy all that are ready to go. I'll need the room for upcoming fry and frankly I'm tired of feeding the free loaders. Finally a new spawn! - Page 3 My_bed24
