I have one male and one female guppy that im trying to breed. The male has only been in the tank for 9 days now. My beautiful female has a gravid spot that is small, brown and black colored. and is better seen and larger on her left side. She isnt very big at all yet. But if i am correct.. I think she might be getting more round than normal. This is my first time and have lots of questions. Should i remove the male yet, even though she isnt very big at all yet? And in your opinion do u think she is pregnant? She is still eating very well. But tonight was a little sluggish and mainly swam at the bottom of the tank. She might just be tired though. Like i said she isnt very big at all yet. But she has been with a male for 9 days now and her gravid spot is a medium brown and black colored.

More than likely she is. Once you put a male guppy in with female guppies they go right to work flaring their fins trying to impress and chasing them around trying to impregnate them.

I remember my mom used to breed guppies a while back, but all I can remember is that she took the female out when she was fit to burst and put her in a breeding net so the babies dropped down and couldn't be eaten. Up until then she left them in their little crowd of guppies.

Sounds like she could be pregnant. You could remove the male as he will just keep pestering her to breed. Once a female guppy has bred, she chooses when to use the male sperm. And one breeding can lead to several batches of young over a few months as females store the sperm.
One of my female guppies was pregnant when I bought her and it led to at least 4 batches of babies, each batch getting dropped every 4/6 weeks. I have raised numerous guppy fry, it's fun to watch them grow.
