Right, been as Spikey refused to bubble for my CT girl I have abandoned that project (for now) and decided to try the HM line bred white pair.

    Pics of the happy couple:

Going to use the aqua qube again for this spawn - will take pics of the set up later on.

This pair have been conditioned as I just feed all of my bettas bloodworm at the same time

    Again, fingers crossed for me!

Thanks kel, I hope so! I am supposed to put the female in a jar to get him interested arent i? scratch

tbf mandy this is my first time with a white pair and white eyes too so I couldnt tell you!

But he doesnt seem to be bline, he can Bonnie and he also saw oscar who was in the section next to him originally

Also, his colouring REALLY scared me, I thought he was injured, but then I noticed Bonnie has the same colouring, and I do vaguely remembering Clyde's brother at Kelly's house had some red on him too

If I've got the right fish, there line was outcrossed with a red. And the red wash is still showing in these two.

right, as things have been cleared up about condition of fish etc I decided to let her out for a while today - and I have lots of pics to upload for later on

Lots and lots of dancing and showing off nests, very pleased with the response to each other. Only one nip, but that was it.

Put her back in the trap as I couldnt watch them all day but we have MAD bubble best building and Bonnie has breeding bars

    Am happy with the results

    fingers crossed for you hun

gonna have some amazing whites from this lot

for mandy.. this is nice and complicated!

White opaques commonly have the cloudy layer over eyes, it's a hard find and very expensive to get them without it. They aren't blind.

The red bits are a red wash from the outcross 3 generations ago. It is essential to outcross whites every 8-10 generations approx as they develop black muddy scales when overly inbred white to white, even if non related, also the cloudy eye thing they get will dramatically increase in fry if not outcrossed around 10th gen.

They are outcrossed to either red or blue so as well as pink whites you get many with blue tints.

Ideal breeding time to maximise the show end quality is 4th-8th gen, very few cloudy eyed or washes in fry if any and should be minimal. Haych's pair might not be show grade due to their faults but they will produce mainly top show fry as they're on the right gen (f4) to maximise the 'perfect' fry count.

Another thing to be aware of is that whites show their best colour with flash or well lit tanks... (hence haych's big variation on pictures between lighting)
Places like aquabid you really have to watch for it as many sold as 100% whites aren't but using effective lighting (flash) to downplay the faults and still often have the higher price tag.

A pure white opaque show betta with good form and clear eyes should cost approx $50 on aquabid excluding shipping.

told you it was complicated! lol

    This isn't going well Sad

bonnie jumped out of the trap and was happily swimming around, left her to it for a while but she wasn't responding to Clyde so I put her away. She has been out several times since and she just doesn't want to breed - she looks in his nest, he waggles, she ignores.

Bonnie doesn't seem to be egging up - am I just backing a dead horse???

What would happen if I put a black HM in with Clyde?

i'd give the whites the rest of today, if no luck i'd ermove both of them and retry the ct pair

if you use the same tank, spikey hopefuly will take over clydes ready made bubble nest and start adding to it.

you don't really want to mix tail types and colour at the same time as the mix and match of genes could give you a lot of untidy fry.

    yeah... can be really frustrating

but seriuosly if whites don't spawn this time, there's a good chance your ct's will

espcially since spikey will have a ready made nest

I wouldn't dare mix tail types or colours. think of the work it's took the breeder to get parents white, you don't want to waste all that hard work and throw in something that doesn't match.
If you mix tail types...you'll just have a mish mash of not so nice bettas.

i really don't know what you'd get from white to black but you def won't get pure whites from it and even full black will be unlikely

more likely you will get mainly red and blue shades in various degrees of colour from the background dominant genes. (red from white outcross line, blue from the black outcross lines) Really not worth chancing if you want fish that are easy to sell as they are such common colour mixes.
