try google search: montmorillonite clay or koi clay, bentonite clay....
a tip i have used in the past to prepare water for spawns, this method will prove helpfull for any freshwater species, i have used this in preperation many times to full effect with breeding koi discus pearl and dwarf gouramis, i also use on a weekly basis for top up water, this will ad valuable minerals not available from the tap it also has a wierd ability to give the water a crispness and sparkle like nothing else can,
the other joy is you cannot overdose and the powdered clay can be sprinkled onto fish food, i use one level teaspoon per 10 gallons as top up water, also u can preform powder into small clay balls with small amount of water and dry out then ad to aquarium for slow release as soon as it disapears ad a new ball..
i used this on my recent betta spawn i also use around 20lbs a year in my koi pond most fish in that are around 15-20yrs old.. Smile
oh by the way u can also drink the stuff lol, i do!!!!!!!

There is something to be said for this brand of silt !

In our own human terms it has many pharmaceutical uses,,
From irritable bowl syndrome to constipation and a whole lot more,,
For making tablets and slow release medicines,,
Not to mention make up !

On an agricultural level I know for a fact pig and fish farms use it as it as a growth enhancer !

But I have to say I've never even considered it with the Betta !
And in truth it would help simulate a rice paddy very nicely ,,

It's a nice idea and definitely worth the experiment ,,
I can see no compounds in there that will stress or harm the Betta ,,

So I for one will give this a try at some point,,

Is it the same as green clay? I know each colour has different properties, but the other names I've never heard of. I'd never have thought of putting it in the tank either. Sounds fun!
