I think I've been putting this off long enough. I'm wanting to send some of my Bettas to the IBC show in San Fransisco June 23rd to see how they do. So far I have these two picked for shortfin male and singletail male in the new breeder class. What do you think? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Off to the Show!
you've a great chance chard! they are both show fish, faults I can see that depends on the standard of the others are... (constructive critisism, but please do let me know what faults and points they do get judged and allocated points on since I'm def not a qualified judge!)
no.1
assuming short finned male class rather than specific dark/bi color type classes
minor faults..
slightly uneven caudal outline
lack of consistant banding on dorsal and anal (may just be the pic blur)
not 100% uniform mettallic on body
*very very slight duck bill shape to nose/head
*top of caudal very very slightly rounded
* I think if it's between him and another on same points they could be the faults that will help judges decide who wins*
He's got loads of better points than those possible minor faults..
brilliant proportions between dorsal and anal fin as well as body size
full 180 caudal spread
straight ventrals
pretty consistant distribution of colour in finnage and basic body even if not 100% perfect
I would like to think he gets placed if not wins depending on the competition numbers.
no. 2
minor faults i can see..
white and cellophane edge not consistant
white on anal rays not consistant
rounded anal fin
great points
steamlined body shape
in proportion body to fins
good dorasl spread close to caudal height and in proportion to anal
looks 180 spread although not flaring in pic
ventral color consistant with paired fin color
They are both show worthy and I do think they would be placed in an average show if not win but it does depend on the competition on the day I guess. I do consider them show standard in the higher levels of betta showing, I have seen better but only imports, you've done brilliant with your fish chard and goodluck!
please tell me how it goes! an ibc comp here if they existed via the ibc rules and you would win hands down!

Re: Off to the Show!
I think I classified the first one too soon. The (slightly uneven caudal line) Kel pointed out is getting more "uneven". He's from a CT spawn so his caudal rays are extending now. I may still go with him or a Gold HMPK from a Dragon spawn. The show is in 12 days and these guys could do a lot of growing in that time. I'm going to be on edge about this desision (like I'm not already).

Re: Off to the Show!
hey its all an experience no matter which you choose
from one show to another the standard in a class varies hugely so it's pot luck if you have strong competition or an easy win
