Feeding
_________
Beardies should be fed regularly but not too often. For example, a good way of feeding an adult is to feed them two locusts/crickets the first day, one the second day and none the third day. Continue this sequence and your adult beardie will be well fed. However, if he/she is still hungry, do not hesitate to give them a couple more. As for babies, they eat bugs in no particular sequence. So release some meal worms into the tank and if the baby beardie doesn't finish them all, you know not to give him/her anymore. If they do, put in another meal worm and see if he/she eats it. If they don't, it doesn't matter, keep the bug in the tank (with door closed) and your bearded dragon will eat it in their own time.
Calcium
_______
As well as the bugs, beardies need calcium, so once a week you should get a meal worm or locust/cricket and put it in a plastic bag filled with calcium powder (you can buy this from a pet store) and shake the closed bag around. Then release the now calcium-covered bug into your beardie's tank and make sure your dragon eats it. Remember they only need this once a week, though there is no harm in doing it more often if you think your lizard is unhealthy.
Greens
________
Your beardie also has to eat it's vegetables and so choose from carrot, lettuce or cabbage leaves and cut into very small pieces so your dragon doesn't choke. Then put the veggie on a small, easily accessible dish and put at the bottom of your lizard's tank. Don't give your beardie any bugs until they finish their greens, if you stick to this, they will figure out that if they want their bugs, they have to eat the vegetable first. (or if they arent hungry, about 3/4 of the dish) This should be done every one or two days, and don't put the veggies under or near a heat-lamp, otherwise they will dry up and your dragon wont want them. I advise you keep them in the damper side of the tank. If your dragon still wont take the vegetables, keep attempting.
Water
_______
Your beardie can easily get dehydrated in the heat of the tank so you need to feed him/her water once a week. You do this by filling a bowl with cold water and dipping your finger in it, then with a drop on your finger, place it at your beardie's lips and they should lick it off. If they don't take the water, keep attempting, as it is important. Keep on putting the drips to your dragon's mouth until he/she stops licking it. This means they aren't thirsty anymore. Remember, the more vegetables your dragon eats, the less thirsty they will be as water is contained largely in vegetables.
Getting the bugs
______________
You should be able to get bugs from your local reptile-providing pet store. They should either give you them in a bag or a plastic carton. If you find it easier, get a tank and release the bugs into it when you buy them, and feed them lettuce. If you don't want to do this, just keep them somewhere really warm in the carton they came in and they should live for a few weeks. If they came in a bag, you don't have much choice but to release them, as they may eventually chew through the bag. Also, if no-one in your house likes bugs, then a friendly tip: A bearded dragon is not the pet for
you.
Lamps
_______
Your bearded dragon needs to keep warm in it's tank so you need to buy a heat lamp. Go to a local bulb-selling store (eg Homebase) or your pet store and find a heat lamp of 100W. If it is less than 100 Watt, then your beardie probably won't like it. Remember, always keep a spare bulb in the house in case the first one goes out. It can go out anytime. There should be a lamp fitting at the top of your dragon's tank, make sure you notice what type of fitting it is before you get bulbs. (eg, screw-in fitting)
Your bearded dragon's tank should be around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sand
_______
Your bearded dragon needs the right sand at the bottom of their tank. I recommend calcium sand because if your beardie swallows some of this sand by accident, it won't harm them. Calcium sand can be bought at all good reptile-providers. Remember, calcium sand is NOT quite the same as calcium powder (which you put on your dragon's bugs).
Cleaning up
__________
Your dragon's tank will need to be cleaned every now and again. The sand needs to be replaced every 6 months or around that. Also, you can clean your lizard-tank with tank-cleaning spray (specially adapted for cleaning reptile tanks) from a pet store. Make sure your pet is not in the tank when you replace the sand or clean the glass. Now, to the disgusting bit, leavings. Most bearded dragons don't normally poo often but when they do it can be quite messy. I recommend a poop-scoop from a pet store. You should try and get one especially for bearded dragons but if you really can't find one, a normal cat poop-scoop will do. If you can't get this either, then you may have to pick up the poo with toilet roll or tissue. It smells so always put it in the outside bin.
Tanks
______
* Make sure you have plenty of room in your house for a big tank.
* Make sure the tank you get is especially for bearded dragons, no gecko tanks or fish tanks, etc.
* You should be able to get a bearded dragon tank online or in a pet store.
* Be careful you get the right tank, especially when on the likes of Ebay.
