Two of my angelfish had been living with my carp. Boooo bad! I know... BUT the tank was always in the tropical temps due to the neon lights. The reason they had been moved there is because they had paired up and were chasing all the others. They seemed fine with Ray &co. You'd actually see them chasing Winston (a huge ghost carp) away from 'their' corner lol. Winston took no notice, he's 'ard.
ANYWAY, I removed a number of angelfish from the main community and placed them in my display tank (the one for sale), so I thought Tony and Kerrigan might like to move back into the main community. However, the golden male (biggest of the ones left) practically killed Tony as soon as he arrived, so he got deported to the 60L. A couple of days later, waddyano, there are eggs! This was Friday. I wasn't ready, so I left it to the gods. (FYI, last time I left eggs in that tank, they had been eaten by the following morning) The next day, the eggs were still there! Tony and Kerrigan had managed to defend them all night against marauders. When I fed the fish, they would take it in turns guarding the eggs while the other ate, they were quite the organised pair.
Saturday, I still wasn't ready to move the eggs out; washing the tablecloth took precedence, so I took another chance and left them in till Sunday. Sunday... still there and wriggling! Little tails were poking out of the eggs. We got everything set up in the 17L for them, so they wouldn't have to worry about anyone else. I had decided to be controversial and leave the parents with the young. Angelfish have been separated from their young for so many generations, that it has become a risk to leave them together, however, I am a firm believer in natural instinct and giving it a chance.
The egg-tails were on a leaf on a plant stuck to wood (they had been moved from a vallis leaf Friday night). Simon wanted to move them, so I let him, while fretting and running up and down the front of the tank, generally getting in the way. Tony and Kerrigan went for him like a pair of rottweilers. All that time with Winston must have paid off lol. They were most certainly NOT afraid of Simon's great big paws (I got bitten by Kerrigan the night before last, I can vouch for the fact that it hurts!). He managed to remove the wood and place it in the new tank, then I caught both parents and put them in with it. They looked rather distressed to start with, but calmed down when they found their eggs. The tank is a bit of a squeeze for two fully-grown angelfish, but at least they can be left to their own devices!
Sorry for the long novel... Here are some pics:
This is Tony defending the eggs. If you go near the tank, he'll park himself in front so you can't see lol.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]This is this morning. The babies took their first official swim and swarmed around Mummy and Daddy. Tony kept trying to catch them all and put them back to bed on the leaves. The water looks a little cloudy, that's just the microworms I put in.
