So, now they've hatched after my initial panic of thinking the eggs were infertile, here are some pics from the spawn. Daddy didn't pick up the eggs, the female did first and then after about half an hour the male starting picking them up too. Was funny because everytime she went up to the nest with the eggs in her mouth, he kept trying to wrap her Laughing

should be a nice spawn Smile

I tried similar pair but didn't happen and have now spawned red/pink marble bf with a solid orange ( planted fry tank guy)

eggs just hatched this eve so fingers crossed he doesn't munch them... last time he ate the eggs

hope it all goes to plan hun!

Thanks, and good luck Kel Smile they sound like a nice pair that'll have some gorgeous bubs. I love the excitement of what colours to expect (though no prizes for my lot - i'm assuming red and cello, their parents were the same)

Ooh a question though - mum of this pair was apparently longfinned - will this come through in the fry? Obv this female has normal finnage and so did the other girls from that spawn

You will prob have some iffy girls/boys for longer with the long fin girl background but it's no worse than figuring pks males and females

the advantage with the paler fry you can see the oval egg sac behind the belly.. the long pointed white bit visible under the skin.. only females have that

I doubt any orange fry but hopefully stronger red bf or some solids as well as marble.

If he ain't ate them yet lol!

LOL I hate the nerve-wracking bit of waiting until you can remove male, i'm always worried he'll snap and decide it's been too long since dinner.

Have to admit that I offered him pellets when I thought the eggs were dudds... he put the in his mouth, "cleaned" them like eggs then spat them under some plants LMAO

Removed daddy - a few hours early but he has some scales scraped off his face and needs some tlc and feeding up. He's quite happy in the divided tank now, had his dinner of bloodworms and is checking out the new neighbour DT

Can't see many fry but then I have lots of plants in this tank and I think he moved most of the fry to behind the cup and into the frogbit, lol

Just a quick update... fry seem to be doing well.. totally not sure how many I have as I think a lot have taken up residence in the bushy plants, lol.

It's fun watching them attacking the worms Smile they seem to be doing well. Thought one was dead but turns out it was most likely a little too full and was resting on the bottom for ages after dinner Rolling Eyes

Hoping for some pretty ones from this spawn Smile

Looks like I have about 10-15 HM fry, none found dead so far *fingers x'd and touching wood* will hopefully get some pics up soon

Daddy and mummy have recovered very well from spawning, no depression for dad either and he's now recovered from his sticky fins in the busted heater tank.

nice to see you have the lil wrigglers hun... hard work getting them!

SILVER>>>>"I offered him pellets when I thought the eggs were dudds... he put the in his mouth, "cleaned" them like eggs then spat them under some plants LMAO"

Talking of pellets and male treating them like fry I'm currently experimenting with feeding known egg eaters with the dried bloodworms... look nothing like fry or eggs... seems to be working so far but long way to go before conclusive.

I've been feeding pellets to my males tending nests and avoiding frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms. So far 3 spawns to the good and one Copper HMPK ate the eggs and or fry twice in a row.

Yeah I think next spawn I will try feeding the male again.

They are doing good. Founf the biggest one dead with a red head - looked like his brain had exploded or something Sad

Rest are doing well, if only the bloody snails would go away!!! Stupid things are taking over no matter how many egg sacs I remove Evil or Very Mad

I'm happy overall with how things are going, and it will be a manageable number Smile

well the current male i'd been feeding bloodworms too has ate the eggs again... not fed since last night but had moved the eggs at lunchtime then 2 hours later the bubble wrap had been moved again and looks like he ate them again... they were due to hatch late tonight/early morning grrr

back to square one on how to stop them munching lol

I've had the odd occasional one with internal bleeding, no others affected and no way of figuring the cause without someone in a lab... got a pic of one from the stomach but also had ones with it from the head too

Yeah that looks exactly like it, wonder what it is Suspect

Sorry he ate them Sad naughty boy! Eros just ate his last batch too, he wasn't happy with the spawn and just let the eggs float everywhere and then ate them Rolling Eyes following your advice on someone else's thread and holding off spawning for couple weeks
