Re: My first spawn: Spike & Clover
Thanks a lot you guys :-)
If mine are bigger than yours Sarah it's probably because I have less fry than you which means less of those growth-stunting hormones get released. I've lost about 5 over the last almost two weeks with no idea why, water has been good, they've been getting enough to eat etc. I think I have about 25 - 28 left now. I hope they all make it! They're so fun to watch and there are quite a few who will come up to the front of the tank when I'm sat there and swim about and show off for me, which is good 'cause I love examining their fins and seeing the flashes of colours! They're really used to me fiddling around in the tank too, they don't get a bit scared when I'm cleaning up or moving things around, a few even come right to my fingers, it's so adorable ^^

Here's some pics of Spike Jr and his brother, Titan, at 5 weeks old. Titan is now the larger of the two!

Re: My first spawn: Spike & Clover
Thanks Sarah, I'm pretty proud of my little brood, fingers crossed they all make it, I have about 25 now, maybe a couple more if I'm lucky.
I bet those little ones you have left are the toughest! You did a great job of treating the whitespot hun, I'm sure most cases of whitespot in young fry are 100% lethal. With less fry in the tank (no offense!) your other fry might catch up in growth soon.

Re: My first spawn: Spike & Clover
I've got about 25 at the mo Storm, all colouring up except one tiny white one. I'm gonna try & do a good headcount tomorrow when I give their tank a good clean out. Some are massive, and about 5 are sooo titchy still!!

Re: My first spawn: Spike & Clover
Sounds like it's time to separate the little ones. The big ones take the lions share and the little guys will never catch up without being kept apart. I've had some really nice fry grow up that wouldn't have amounted to much otherwise.

Re: My first spawn: Spike & Clover
You're right Chard, I don't want those little ones getting left behind (or eaten!!).
Here's some pics taken today of the CT fry. They're 5.4 days old. There's one in there that's now bigger than Titan AND Spike Jr..it seems the minute I take the biggest fry out, another one grows really quick to take it's place!! I have maybe 25 if I'm lucky, I lost a sickly looking one today. I'm getting nervous, I don't want to lose anymore :-( They have perfect water and regular WC so I can't think what it could be. None of them look ill except the one that died tonight. It is generally the small weedy ones that have passed so who knows.
One of the fry with blue fins:
Some fry just hanging out together:
Another fry showing blue. He's not in focus but you can see the electric blue in his fins:
The largest fry in the tank, you can see how much bigger he is than the smaller fry near him in the pic:
Jess ^^

Re: My first spawn: Spike & Clover
Good point, I'll check to see if the worms are alive when they get here. It is weird that they haven't gotten here yet if you sent them first class..I hope the post office weren't too rough with the package and squished it and made a mess, then they would just chuck it away. Don't they know this is worm express?! Lol.

Re: My first spawn: Spike & Clover
The CT's are doing well, although the smaller weaker ones are succombing to lock jaw and crooked spines all of a suden, which is weird. But the bigger ones are all thriving, and starting to get coloured scales, which is exciting as they've been bright pink since they were two weeks old LOL. They're getting moved to a bigger 130L grow out tank next weekend so will take more pics then!

Re: My first spawn: Spike & Clover
I'll try and get some new pics, they're all pretty much cambodia looking at the mo: bright pink bodies with red fins, although some have metallic blue in their fins/some on their body. I'm hoping they'll colour up a bit more over the next few weeks. I only have 8 left, as the big ones apparently munched on the tiny ones before I could set up a tank to seperate them. The 8 I have left are thriving, they're going to eat me out of house and home if I'm not careful!! Will get some pics over the weekend hopefully
