The rummy nose tetra is a stunning fish, and is the perfect addtion to any community tank. The rummy nose is a great fish and will do we in groups of 6 or more, they are a very active fish, but peaceful and wil normally spend most of there day chasing each other back and forth and is really amusing to watch. There bodies are a goldy brown colour/and a black and white stripe tail and with a delightful red nose lol, this is an amazing fish and i would tell everyone to get 6 for there tank.

The male is thinner, while the female is more compact with a larger (Rounded) stomach during spawning

The rummy nose will thive in a well planted tank, with loads of place for them to explore and dive in and out of. Tempertures of 73-79 ° F are great for these fish. Feeding them is easy they will accept flake food, but make sure you treat them to some live or frozen foods every so often.

Taking care of the neon.

First of all lets have alook at the neon, many people are drawn to the neon tetra, as its a small brightly coloured fish, with a high tolerance level. With being quite a hardy fish type it will make the perfect start for begginers, and indeed for more advanced fish keepers.

Neons are attractive in there own way with a bright blue stripe that runs across there body, and a ready stripe that runs to the middle of there stomach. See picture below, pictures taken from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Neons are best kept in a group of 6 or more as the are shoaling fish, the temperature should be kept between 68° and 79°f. Neons feed well on flake foods, but will enjoy the odd bit of live bloodworm or frozen bloodworm. Neons are the perfect fish for a community tank, however they may nip fish with long brightly coloured fins, although if kept in groups they should keep any quibbling to themselves.

The only thing with neons is neon tetra illness, this is as illness that can spread to certain types of fish. There is no cure at the moment for this illness, i myself have had neons with this illness, and it killed off half of the fish in my tank. I now tend to go for the cardinal tetra, i have read certain articals that suggest cardinals fair better with this illness and stand more chance of living, if indeed they catch it at all. So you may want to google for some more info.

The Cardinal

The cardinal is another amazing fish, and is indeed like another neon. Cardinal have the same colours that we expect from a neon with there long blue stripe across the top half of the body, however unlike the neon the red stripe runs right across the lower body. At adult size the cardinal grows slightly bigger than an adult neon, cardinal again like to be kept in groups of 6 or more and will thrive in a community tank. The one main diffrence for cardinals is, i don't think there are as hardy as the neon. So therefore i would suggest letting your tank mature alittle before getting these stunning fish. A temperature range of 75° to 84° degrees will be great for this tetra. Cardinals will feed well on flake foods, but will enjoy the odd bit of live bloodworm or frozen bloodworm.

as i have never attempted breeding these fish, i have found some info off the net.

Breeding

Soft water, with 1° - 2°of hardness, Ph of 5.0 - 6.0 and a water temperature of about 82° f. Use Java moss or a synthetic substitute over the bottom of the tank and reduce the lighting. Cardinals usually spawn at twilight. The male embraces the female when spawning and about 500 eggs are scattered among the Java moss. Remove the parents. The eggs hatch in about 24 hours and the fry are free-swimming in about five days. Feed the young on Infusoria and later on , newly hatched Brine Shrimp. The Cardinal is not easily bred and most specimens are still imported from their native waters. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
