[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]It's unfinished. That glossostigma in the middle needs to go. I fail terribly at growing that. I wanted it to grow on top of the piece of bogwod on the right, but I think the fish just uproot it all the time. The mossballs will be moved into the coldwater tank and the little grasses are new and going to spread along that right corner (or so the plan is). The best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray lol. The lilies are growing out instead of up, like they were meant and the bushy plants on the left need 30cm trimming off, on average, once a week. Still, I don't have a garden, so it keeps me busy

I love the tufts of grass and i was thinking of buying some for my set up is it easy to keep??
I love the bushy plants to the left what are they called??
Also can i ask how big is your tank as mine is only 100 litres and yours looks soooooo much bigger than mine. |

The bushy plants are Limnophila sessiliflora. A lot like the cabomba, that you got, except they're brighter and mine get a red tinge as they get to the surface. I don' know if it's normal, but it's nice :-) The grass I've only just put in, but it's already grown, so might be easy enough to keep. The tank has sand though, so I don't know how they'd grow in gravel. Here's a pic of the cabomba roots when i cleared them out of the tank. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

What kind of l;ighting are you using ? I planted a whole load of cabomba in my community tank and it grew like mad but it would get to a certain length then break off at the stem so I'd have various bits of it floating around the tank every day or 2 Having a lot of sucess with Rotalia and Hygrophilia (which I used to replace the cabomba after taking a benny and tearing it all out ) they seem to do well in my community tank which is very deep (its a juwel Trigon 190l). I also have had trouble with vallis I know its supposed to be really easy to grow but it just seems to go all mushy on me

I think it's a combination of things that make everything grow, but a secret recipe I discovered: week-end food. When I went to France for a week-end, I stuck two of those pyramid things in. I had to trim 30cm off 4 days later. For the cabomba, I leave it floating until roots start sprouting, then I plant it and it spreads like a weed. The lights are T8 PowerGlo and AquaGlo, but I also have an undergravel heater, laterite and MTS. The Vallisneria americana started in a different tank but went all 'mushy' lol. They've grown well in this tank, however, and sent runners with new plants right to the front on a couple of occasions. I think they prefer a more nutritious soil. Do you have sand or gravel?

In my community tank its small diameter gravel, Ive been using root tabs to fertilize the plants and it seems to go well for certain ones just not the valis. Yes the cabomba did grow like mad but it was a nuisance having to replant every bit that broke off. Im thinking my lighting my have been too weak for the valis or maybe not since Im having the same problem in the small tetra tank grrrrrrr.

I tried root tabs too, in their first tank, but I just found that they made the sand smell when I pulled the plants up. No extra roots to show or anything. Lol try an alternative to vallis. maybe it's just not cut out for your tank. Would you like me to send you a couple of shoots of mine as a final try?

Oh no its ok the tank is pretty heavily planted now with other plants that seem to be flourishing, I'll post a pic later and let you see One possibility for my vallis disaster might be the variety Im using, the twisted vallis, not sure if it makes a difference maybe its less hardy than the straight vallis.

Found some old photos of it. The angelfish look tiny and the tank huuuuuuge! Now it's the other way round lol! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I still have one of those orange female guppies, the others got eaten by Winston. You can also make out a tiny flying fox in the background. Now he's a 5" monster lol! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The angelfish were tiddly. Tony is the one on the right, that was always his spot. Now, he's 8" tall and 4" long. I removed him to a tank with more available height. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]On this one, you can make out my young opaline gourami. I'm guessing that's the male, as the female used to hide all the time. And he was twice her size back then!
